Montana will hold its FIRST EVER Governor's
Conference on Marriage and Families, September 23, 2000, at
Montana State University-Bozeman. The conference will
feature Wade Horn as the keynote speaker and will
gather knowledgeable experts to share the latest innovations in
the field of marriage and family education and to discuss solutions to the
dilemma of marital and family breakdown.  Conference participants include
counselors, therapists, clergy, family life educators, lay leaders,
teachers, policy makers, community leaders, journalists, AND the PUBLIC.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Governor's Office, the Governor's
Council on Families, Montana State University Extension Service, and the
Family Services Division of the Montana Department of Public Health and
Human Services.

There will be two tracks: professional and public.  The professional
track
will present some of the latest and most
effective strategies for building a satisfying marriage and family.
While these strategies would have immediate usefulness, the sessions will
also serve as a foundation for more extensive
training, to be scheduled by each presenter.

Those attending the public
track will learn skills to fortify their marriage or other family
relationships. They will also be pointed in the direction of in-depth
resources available in their local communities, the state, nationally, and
at other places (e.g., the Internet).

The conference will also feature a Share Fair of exhibits where merchants
and professionals will display resources for strengthening
marriages and families.

A website for the conference is under construction and will be available
soon.
